Idle fees are currently in beta. Their behavior may change. To follow the roadmap, see the Roadmap page.
How it works
Here is the chronological flow of a session that generates idle fees:- The charging session ends when the vehicle reaches its target state of charge or the driver stops it.
- A configurable grace period begins. During this time, no idle fees are applied.
- If the vehicle remains plugged in beyond this period, idle fees start accruing at the configured rate.
- Fees accumulate until the vehicle is unplugged or a cap is reached.
Configuration
In the Sessions > Idle fees menu, click New rule. Fill in the following parameters:
You can apply a rule at the level of a site, a specific charger, or a driver group. For example, you can grant a longer grace period to residents than to public customers.
Use cases
Idle fees are particularly useful in the following contexts:- Improve charger availability: by encouraging quick unplugging, you reduce unnecessary occupation time.
- Reduce spot blocking: ideal in parking lots with a limited number of charging spots.
- Optimize fleet utilization: revenue reports distinguish energy revenue from idle revenue, letting you adjust your pricing policy.
Driver notifications
Before fees are triggered, watt.ma can notify the driver by SMS or mobile push. Configure the notification delay in the rule. The message indicates the remaining time before fees begin and the per-minute amount. Example notification:Your charge is complete. Unplug within 5 minutes to avoid idle fees of 1.00 MAD/min. Green Energy Park
Concrete example: Green Energy Park
Take a session on chargerCP-001 at the Green Energy Park site:
- Active charge: 40 minutes, 18 kWh at 2.50 MAD/kWh = 45.00 MAD
- Grace period after charge ends: 15 minutes (free)
- Time remained plugged in beyond grace period: 25 minutes
- Idle fee rate: 1.00 MAD/min, cap 30.00 MAD
